Mentor
About the Residency: I couldn't find myself in a better place to train and am priviledged to be a part of a program that is on the rise. It's great to be part of a residency that is overly supportive of my goals while training and is focused on getting me to where I want to go. Between the attending staff, abundance of pathology and ingestable fried delicacies, I have found a true home away from home. And that's a lot coming from kid who swore he'd never leave the ski slopes of Colorado!
About Buffalo: People here are exceptionally welcoming and accomodating. There is so much to explore and see here. |

About the Residency: The first month was a great way to learn the ins and outs of the hospitals; you will appreciate it later. This residency is proof that you can be a professional and comfortable at the same time.
About Buffalo: The summers are comfortable and there is a tremendous amount to do. I golf and there is plenty of affordable golfing (yes you will have time to do non-medical stuff). I come from Maine so the winters are not as bad as people describe it. P.S. Buffalo is great for dogs too! |

How did you hear about our residency program?
ERAS, graduate of program
About the Residency: A program is only as good as its people and this was one of the major draws for me. You will have access to a wide variety of experts in many fields as represented clinically and through the academic tracks. You will also get to practice in a wide variety of clinical settings from a rural, single coverage ED to a very busy Level 1 trauma center. You will also practice in one of the nation's few pediatric hospitals - a great resource. No matter where you choose to practice after residency, you will be well prepared.
About Buffalo: Great medium-sized city with a wide variety of cultural, dining and recreational activities. Very accessible and affordable! Coming from NYC it was quite a shock that our mortgage was less than our previous rent! The snow isn't to bad since it comes in bursts and the people up here are very used to dealing with it.
Additional Comments: I am excited to be back in Upstate New York to continue my education in emergency medicine. |

How did you hear about our residency program?
ERAS
About the Residency: The residency here is very welcoming and the faculty is truly committed to resident education (as opposed to just having employees covering shifts). There are many, many areas of Emergency Medicine that you can explore here to prepare yourself for a career in EM. The scholarly track program is one of only a handful in the country. All in all, there's a culture of fostering education and experience here while giving ample independence to find your own voice in Emergency Medicine.
About Buffalo: One of my medical school classmates was from Buffalo and told me how great the city and program are. This convinced me to take a closer look. So far I love Buffalo--it's affordable to live, the people are nice, and the program here is very supportive and generous with its residents.
Additional comments: My wife and I figured winters in Chicago weren't enough for us so we decided to come to Buffalo. When we arrived we found that upon entry, each person is given a bucket of Buffalo wings - standard issue

About the Residency:
About Buffalo: Buffalo has beautiful summer weather and very nice people. Whatever your interests may be, there is always something for you to do. It is quiet and peaceful with easy access to the hustle and bustle of Toronto. I think the training is very good, with lots of exposure to different types of clinical settings. This creates a well-rounded experience that keeps you on your toes.

How did you hear about our residency program?

About the Residency: The residency here at Buffalo has been great so far. I have already seen an unreal amount of pathology and feel like I am much more comfortable handling sick patients after just a few months spent in the ED. I always feel like I am receiving the necessary support from our attending staff who are essentially always looking to teach us something from each and every patient encounter. Our non-clinical support staff, such as our program coordinators at our ED sites, have also been instrumental in ensuring our educational goals are met and I cannot imagine being surrounded by a better group of people. 2nd and 3rd year residents have been more than helpful and take the time to teach procedures as well as offer their support those times when I feeling overwhelmed.
About Buffalo: All the perks of a large city - great food, professional sports teams, great bar scene, arts and culture - without all of the negatives of a large city like terrible traffic and enormous expenses
Additional Comments: The weather is really not that bad - snow is better than hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes |

How did you hear about our residency program?
Dax Holder, MD
About the Residency: Our program is great for many reasons:
1. The faculty here are amazing, genuine, kind, and focused on imparting their knowledge.
2. My fellow residents are superb. Everyone has opened their hearts, homes, and refrigerators.
3. The Scholarly Research Track requirement is an uncommon opportunity that can lead to certification and/or a better CV after residency.
4. Four weeks of vacation each year.
5. Several great hospitals in which to learn.
6. Check out UB GME history at http://www.smbs.buffalo.edu/GME/
About Buffalo: The City of Buffalo has a unique historical vibe, nice city parks, and the surrounding area has the "regular American stuff" like malls and Walmart. Niagara Falls, The Great Lakes (Lake Erie & Lake Ontario), and Toronto are next door. The Bills will win a Super Bowl by 2013 - Billieve!
