Student gains experience in suture lab during EM rotation electiveOur student focus is to provide a clinical rotation which is representative of the diverse aspects of Emergency Medicine. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to choose additional activities, in addition to scheduled clinical time, to complete the rotation. Some of the additional activities include:

  • Ultrasound - provide basic ultrasound information and its application in the Emergency Department setting
  • Homeless Clinic - you will work under the supervision of an Emergency Medicine attending in the Friends of the Night Homeless Shelter Medical Clinic in Buffalo
  • EMS - additional EMS experience such as a ride along or attendance at an EMS meeting with Emergency Department personnel
  • Toxicology - observation time in the Poison Center at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo
  • Journal Club - attend the Department of Emergency Medicine Journal Club to discuss current research in Emergency Medicine
  • Pediatric Emergency Care Project - a hands-on curriculum based on regular practice acute emergency scenarios that are intended to refresh residents' understanding, knowledge, and leadership skills for these situations in the Emergency Department. Medical students rotating in emergency medicine or who are interested in a career in emergency medicine are welcome and encouraged to attend these practice sessions

In addition to the student rotation, our program offers a yearly summer clerkship which includes participation in clinical research as well as clinical participation in the Emergency Department.
